The new GT Leadership Challenge Course has been featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution Newspaper

Construction has begun!

December 16th, 2008

Construction on the Georgia Tech Leadership Challenge Course site has begun.

The utility and site grading are taking place during December.

Look for the site to be transforming on a daily basis.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by April 2009.

Look for our website to go live soon. The website will be the place to find out more information about using the course and how to make reservations.

This site will be the place to follow the action of construction. We plan to post photos often as construction ramps up.

The new Georgia Tech Leadership Challenge Course is ready to be built.

We have hired a general contractor and a specialty contractor to build the structures! Construction should take place during the late fall and early 2009.

See the line drawing below for an idea of how the course will look.

Future Site of the Course

May 22nd, 2008

We have a site to place the course complex.

The corner of Ferst Dr and Hemphill. A corner of the “Burger Bowl”.

There used to be a Georgia Power sub station there, but they moved it to Marietta St.

The course will be primarily on the upper portion where the electrical station was.

Welcome to Georgia Tech’s New Leadership Learning Challenge Course Blog

May 21st, 2008

My hope is that you will occasionally check in and see how the course is progressing. This blog will also be a good place to find news and information regarding the challenge course. We are excited to let the Tech community know about the program and the huge potential for growth and learning that it presents.

The idea for building a course has been in the works since at least 1992. Several proposals were made, but the project never got of the ground.

Then, in early 2006, Dr. Schafer - VP of Student Affairs, brought up the idea to Mike Edwards, the Director of the CRC. If Dr. Schafer could build support on campus for the project, would the CRC be willing to manage the operation? Yes, was the answer.

Outdoor Recreation Georgia Tech (ORGT) has always been known on campus for using adventure as a learning tool, so it was a natural fit to house the new challenge course within ORGT.

Thus began the planning of the Leadership Learning Challenge Course Complex.

We need a site on campus, we need a design, we need a builder, we need staff, and we need programs and students.

The goal of this site is to update the GT Community about the progress of the project.

Stay tuned for more.
