Massages:
Swedish Massage
Emphasis is placed on relaxation, soothing tired, overworked muscles and stress relief.
Neuromuscular (NMT) or Therapeutic Massage
Focuses on specifically releasing tight holding patterns caused by postural distortions or old injuries that may not have healed correctly. Usually the therapist will assess the condition and work with the client toward a specific goal. This can also work effectively with Chiropractic care and/or physical therapy.
Deep Tissue Massage
An effective way to release tired muscles, however, all clients have a different threshold for pain. The therapist and client will determine a comfortable way to verbally communicate a pain threshold or "Edge" thereby eliminating any chance of injury by penetrating to deeply into the muscle fibers. Usually after developing a relationship with the therapist and receiving regular weekly massages some clients just prefer deeper pressure Swedish massage.
Therapists:
Lorraine Russell
Lorraine has joined the staff of G.I.T. FIT and brings with her an exciting form of bodywork called Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). Lorraine combines her corporate background, and studies in veterinary medicine, with 9+ years experience as a bodyworker. She is certified in Swedish and Sports massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, and is a Reiki Master/Teacher.
In addition to running a private massage practice, she currently teaches the 210 hour curriculum of Neuromuscular Therapy at The Academy of Somatic Healing Arts. Specializing in NMT, Lorraine educates and treats her clients by providing pain & injury relief, and relaxation to the body, in order to bring about the balance that is essential to physical, emotional and spiritual health.
Lorraine Russell uses a technique called *Postural Assessment as a diagnostic tool for her NMT therapy*. So what exactly is NMT? NMT is a scientific therapy based on recognized physiological laws and principles. The goal of NMT is to achieve balance between the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. It combines the scientific application of properly applied pressure, gentle ranges of motion, and stretches for the purpose of relieving pain, normalizing muscle tone and restoring structural balance to the entire body.
Lorraine is looking forward to integrating massage & bodywork into your workout regimen. With NMT, Lorraine's knows she can help get us all "Moving in the Right Direction!"
