FLY FISHING LESSONS OFFERED AT THE CRC

Starting February 7, Georgia Tech and the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) will begin offering fly casting lessons through a collaboration between the G.I.T. FIT Program and ORGT. Learning how to fly cast is the best way to gain an introduction to the sport of fly fishing. Lessons are taught in a relaxed atmosphere by Certified Instructors from Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF). A beginner can progress at his or her own speed and get personal attention as needed without having to keep pace with a large group.

Three (3) fly fishing trips are planned for Spring '06. First, we'll visit Lake Clara Meer in Piedmont Park to fish for brim and bass. Next, we've planned a walk-and-wade trip on the Chattahoochee River where the students can practice the basic principles of fly-fishing for trout . (Note: Students must bring their own boots and waders.) Lastly, Georgia Tech and Auburn University are going to join forces and take a trip to the Flint River to catch some Shoal Bass. We use these field trips to apply what is learned and enhance the basic understanding of the sport.

Learning to fly fish is a whole lot of fun — and it's a lot easier than you may think! Once you get that basic casting stroke down, the door opens to a truly unique and exciting experience that will last a lifetime.

Cost is $95.00. Fly rod outfits are provided for free . Our sponsors are Sage™ and 3M Scientific Anglers™. To enroll you must you must come to the CRC and pay at the Information Desk. Unfortunately, you cannot enroll online or over the telephone. The official G.I.T. Fit name of the class is “The Essentials of Fly Casting.”

We will meet at 4:00 P.M. every Tuesday, starting February 7th, (except March 14 & 21). The location will be Activity Room #147 at the CRC. Classes are approximately two (2) hours long.

If you have any questions about the course, or need some clarification, call Peter Lami at TEL (404) 348-4975 day or night. Peter Lami is a FFF Master Certified Fly Casting Instructor.
