CRC to Celebrate One Million Visits

 

The Campus Recreation Center (CRC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology will celebrate one million visits to the state-of-the-art fitness facility on Tuesday, April 11 th from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. There will be food and giveaways for the landmark celebration.
The actual one millionth person to walk through the CRC turnstiles will receive a prize package including two round-trip tickets on AirTran. CRC members have a chance to win a video iPod by guessing the exact date and time the one millionth visit occurred. Dr. G. Wayne Clough, President of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Dr. William Shafer, Vice President for Student Affairs, will be in attendance as well as Kasi David, the GSGA President and Buzz.

Opened in August of 2004; the CRC is a 300,659 square-foot facility serving the Georgia Tech community. Site of the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center , originally built for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, the CRC was later built around the existing structure. In addition to the Aquatic Center which includes a leisure pool, competition pool and diving well, the CRC also boasts a 15,000 square-foot fitness center, 35-foot climbing wall, six court gymnasium, racquetball and squash courts, aerobic studios, an indoor running track, outdoor fields, and much more. Home to Georgia Tech's intramural program, sport clubs, outdoor recreation, and the G.I.T. FIT Program, the CRC is nationally recognized and has received the following honors: Outstanding Sports Facility by NIRSA, Recreation Management's Innovative Architecture & Design Award, Building Design & Construction magazine's Gold Award, the Construction Management Project Achievement Award and Design Build Institute of America's National Award of Excellence.

Host to many local, regional, and national events including the recent NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, the CRC promotes a healthy lifestyle through diverse, quality recreational opportunities and services while striving to become the world-class standard for campus recreation.
