How to Sign Up
  • All you need to do is come down to the Wilderness Outpost (during operating hours), fill out the necessary forms and pay.
  • Tips:
      • Sign ups are "first come, first served"
      • Space for trips is limited, so come early and pay for a spot.
      • You can not "reserve" as spot until you pay for the program.
      • Program fees are not refundable, so come to sign up prepared to make the commitment to go on the trip!
      • If you are under 18, you must have parents sign the forms and send the originals to ORGT before the trip, so come early to get the forms.
Important Information
    • ORGT serves students, faculty, staff and their immediate family members.
    • Trips are first come, first served, so sign up early at the Wilderness Outpost located in the CRC, bottom floor.
    • You must have health/accident insurance to participate in our programs.
    • In order to participate in ORGT water sports, you must be a competent swimmer. You will be required to demonstrate swimming proficiency.
    • All meetings and classroom sessions take place at ORGT unless otherwise noted.

Whitewater Kayak Roll

Whitewater Roll School

Join us to hone your "rolling" skills at ORGT's whitewater roll school sessions. These sessions run every Wednesday night in the spring semester from 7pm until about 10pm. Beginner - Advanced participants are welcome to come and join us at the pool.

NOTE: In order to participate, you must meet at ORGT and be able to stay at the roll school for the entire session.

Sea Kayaking

Beginner Sea Kayaking- Day Trip Class

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Join us for a fun day of learning to sea kayak! ORGT is hosting a sea kayaking class and trip. The purpose of the class is to get you comfortable in your boat, teach you about essential gear, teach you the parts of a boat, etc...and on the trip we'll teach you proper paddling strokes and get you time on the water.

* mandatory pool session at the class, so please bring towel and swimsuit to class session.

Sign up: Wilderness Outpost, located in the rear basement of the CRC. Wilderness Outpost hours of operation, M-Th: 2-7pm and Friday 2-5pm.

Discover Day Hike Class Session - Option 1

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Prerequisite: None

Description: This is a beginner day hike. Topics covered include the basics of safety, clothing, gear, and trail etiquette. It consists of one classroom / logistics meeting and a day trip.

Cost includes: Equipment, instruction, and ORGT transportation

Cost does not include: Food on trips

What to Bring: Generally, you will be responsible for keeping yourself warm (or cool), dry, fed and hydrated. This means bringing appropriate clothing and footwear, water and food. Always plan for bad weather and hope for good. You will receive more information at your class / logistics session.

Beginner Backpacking Overnight Class

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM This is the prerequisite for the Intermediate Backpacker Trip.

An introductory course that teaches the basics of backpacking.

Topics
-how to chose clothing and gear
-how to prepare quick and easy meals
-packing your pack
-the importance of trail etiquette
-much more ...
-Some of these topics are taught in the classroom before a trip and some are taught on the trail..

Prerequisites
No previous backpacking experience is needed. This is good chance for beginners to get introduced to backpacking. Everyone will have the opportunity to meet new people to hike with and become introduced to ORGT backpacking.

Beginner Vertical Caving School - 2 class series

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM The Beginner Vertical School is designed to teach participants
rope technique, climbing commands, proper gear placement, protection, and more.

This trip is "on-rope" and will have a climb and assent into a vertical cave. For those of you that are interested in taking your experience to the next level, join us.

This course consists of 2 Classroom sessions and 2 Trips. You MUST attend both classroom and both cave trips to complete the course.

Mountain Biking

Mt. Biking Beginner School - 2 options - 1st option

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Come join ORGT for the Beginner "Off Road Adventure" Mt. Biking School.

This School is made up of one class
session and one trip session.

The class is designed to teach you the basics of mt. biking, including: bike parts, maintenance, trail location, proper clothing and technique.

Even if you are an avid mt. biker, we want you to join us, so come on down to the Wilderness Outpost and sign up!

Cost includes: instruction, gear, and often travel to and from the trip destination.

*You MUST attend this class if you want to join us on the trip!

Fix-it-Right MT Bike Maintenance Class

Intermediate/Advanced "Single Track Challenge" Mountain Biking

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Description: We will be teaching more advanced biking skills in this class, so come if you want to learn and come if you want to ride.

You will also be responsible for keeping yourself fed and hydrated on trips. You will receive more detailed information in the classroom sessions.

*You do not need to bring your bike to the class sessions, however if you do bring it, the instructors can check it for repairs it may need before going on the trip.

ALL bikes will be given a functionality and safety inspection before leaving ORGT for the trip.

Women in the Wilderness

Women's Rock Climbing Night at the Wall

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. The Women's Resource Center and Outdoor Recreation Georgia Tech (ORGT) are teaming up to offer you an evening at the CRC Climbing Wall.

Come join us for this "all women's" program.

We will provide everything you need including, gear and instruction, just bring yourself (and a friend if you would like).

We will be teaching in a supportive, non-competitive environment.

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED.

*Pay UPSTAIRS at the CRC front desk "membership services", then bring the receipt to the wall. You should pay with credit card or Buzz. They do not take cash.
