The mission of the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation SCUBA program is to educate and inspire environmental and multicultural awareness through our training and certification program. 

Info Sessions

  • January 18, 19, 20 from 6- 7 p.m. in Room 147
  • Pre-trip Meeting: Meeting with required water session to check skills and equipment
    - Week prior to Spring Break @ 6 p.m.

Insurance

  • DAN Insurance required for all divers - proof of insurance required prior to departure
  • Trip Insurance: Highly encouraged, but not required (DAN or DiveAssure); can use others if you choose

Payments

  • February 3, 2022 - $600 deposit/person (non-refundable after this date)
  • (Due): DIVE ONLY package will need to pay in full = $485/$585
  • March 3, 2022: Remaining balance 

Notice

  • Certification Dives are for Open Water 1 and Advanced students
  • All diving locations and proposed dives are subject to change as a result of inclement weather and/or safety
  • We may do a service project one afternoon or a group trip at an additional expense if there is interest, more information to come!

Costs

Each package except the Diving Only & Non-Diver Package includes:

  • 5-nights, 2-person/room occupancy
  • 5-days of boat diving
  • 14 individual tank dives
  • Trip Shirt

  • Airfare/Shuttle/Car – must make own arrangements to get to Key Largo/hotel

Hotel/Certification Diver Package – (Open Water 1/Advanced student certifications)

À la carte Options

  • $85 = 2-tank boat dive
  • $75 = 1-tank NIGHT dive (advanced divers must purchase)
  • $99 = Nitrox for all boat dives up to 10 trips (2 tanks/trip) + must be qualified/certified to use Nitrox
  • $80 = equipment rental/trip (This option for individuals NOT in the training program but wanting to rent gear for the trip.  Based on equipment availability and is not prorated per item.)

Trip Information

GT Gear Check-out/in and/or Rental:

  • Individuals enrolled in the GT SCUBA training program are allowed to checkout gear for the trip at no additional chargeDO NOT pay to rent gear on the website if you are a student getting certified on the trip. This includes wetsuit, regulator, mask/fins/snorkel/boots, and dive light. 
  • Individuals not in the training program wanting to rent gear for the trip can do so for $80 (based on equipment availability and is not prorated per item).
  • Equipment checkout will be handled at the Pre-trip meeting – TBD week before trip.
  • All gear must be returned between 4 - 6 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2022

What to Bring/Know:

  • Pack light, casual clothes – temperature will range between mid 70’s to high 80’s
  • SCUBA Gear – M/F/S, boots, wet suit, regulator, BC, dive light – extra batteries!
  • SUNSCREEN
  • A couple bathing suits
  • Dive logbook
  • Certified Divers – must bring your certification card!
  • DAN card
  • Toiletries
  • Spending money
  • Camera & batteries/charger
  • Motion Sickness Medicine

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Sunday, 3/20/22

12:00-2:00pm: Arrive Hotel (depending on mode of transportation)
2:00pm: Check in at Rainbow Reef Dive Shop
2:30pm: Begin 2-tank boat dives/OW 1 students checkout shore dive
7:00pm: Dinner on you own / Evening free (may finish sooner?)

Day 2 - Monday, 3/21/22

  • 7:45am: 2-tank Boat Dive – meet as group at dive shop
    • OW 1 students - checkout dives
    • Advanced students - checkout dive
    • All other divers will dive in buddy teams and within the safe parameters of their skill and experience levels
  • 11:30ish: Lunch (on your own)
  • 12:45pm: 2-tank Boat Dive – meet as group at dive shop
    • OW 1 students, advanced students, and all other students follow same procedures as above
  • 5:00pm: Pool Time/Beach Dinner – ENJOY!

Day 3 - Tuesday, 3/22/22

  • 7:45am: 2-tank Boat Dive – meet as group at dive shop
    • OW 1 students - checkout dives
    • Advanced students - checkout dive
    • All other divers will dive in buddy teams and within the safe parameters of their skill and experience levels
  • 11:30ish: Lunch (on your own)
  • 1:00pm: Afternoon/evening free if not night diving
    • Pool Time/Beach/Dinner (on your own) – ENJOY!
    • Afternoon free only if night diving
  • 5:30pm: Night Dive – for those going meet at dive shop
    • Advanced students (checkout dive) + Others = Instructor led Night Dive
    • All other divers will dive in buddy teams and within the safe parameters of their skill and experience levels

Day 4 - Wednesday, 3/23/22

  • 7:45am: 2-tank Boat Dive – meet as group at dive shop
    • OW 1 students - checkout dives
    • Advanced students - checkout dive
    • All other divers will dive in buddy teams and within the safe parameters of their skill and experience levels
    • Certified group leaders will lead recently certified OW1 divers
  • ~11:30am: Lunch (on your own)
  • 12:45pm: 2-tank Boat Dive – meet as group at dive shop
    • Advanced students - checkout dive (if needed)
    • All other divers will dive in buddy teams and within the safe parameters of their skill and experience level
    • Certified group leaders will lead recently certified OW1 divers
  • 5:00pm: Pool Time/Beach/Dinner – ENJOY!

Day 5 - Thursday, 3/24/22

  • 7:45am: 2-tank Boat Dive – meet as group at dive shop
    • Advanced students - checkout dive
    • All other divers will dive in buddy teams and within the safe parameters of their skill and experience levels
    • Certified group leaders will lead recently certified OW1 divers
  • ~11:30am: Lunch (on your own)
  • NO MORE DIVING AFTER 12PM

Day 6 - Friday, 3/25/22

  • 11:00am: Check out of hotel and head home

Tipping Guidelines

Boat Captain and Dive Crew: $10-20/day

Housekeeping: $1-2/day

We will collect for boat crew on the last day and give to the captain!

*All equipment checked out MUST be returned in the same condition, and thoroughly cleaned and rinsed in fresh water, water drained from BC, dust caps on, wet suits cleaned, etc. A repair/replacement fee will be assessed for equipment damaged or lost.
